OUR FOUNDER
Fernando Helguera, a certified architect from the F.A. of UNAM (Workshop E), has carried out his professional work independently or in collaboration with other teams in Mexico, Italy, the USA, Austria, the Netherlands, Spain, Canada, Honduras, Guatemala, and Ecuador. He speaks Spanish, English, and Italian.
While his fundamental work today is in architecture and the development of water-saving technology, his professional journey includes the following:
GRAPHIC DESIGN & ADVERTISING
His career as a designer began in 1986, venturing into advertising and graphic design, although from early childhood he knew he would dedicate his life to architecture and creative activities in general. For decades, he has designed for renowned international brands.
ARCHITECTURE
He first raised walls in 1989 and has since worked independently, forming teams to develop a wide variety of architectural projects.
CIVIL ENGINEERING
He worked for several years developing remote-guided directional drilling. Following the 2017 earthquake, he conducted numerous structural inspections to assess the feasibility of buildings for victims to receive support from FONDEN. He has worked with adobe and straw bale construction, in addition to more usual building systems.
INDUSTRIAL DESIGN
During the first two decades of the current century, he developed furniture for the most important department stores in the country. He also designed countless stands for renowned companies from the 80s until just a few years ago.
WEB DESIGN
Having acquired programming knowledge, he directed teams that developed administrative and operational systems via the Internet. He has been developing websites from 1998 to the present.
ARTS
He has participated in several painting and sculpture exhibitions; he has also performed as a first tenor in choral groups and has won awards for his short stories and poetry, with his work being published in Mexico and abroad.
ENTREPRENEURSHIP
Today, in addition to his architectural work, he directs a new water-saving technology company for homes called HYDROLOOP, which holds Mexican patents and has been rated AAA in international patent registries (meaning they are patents without previous global precedents).
OTHER INTERESTS
To varying degrees, he dedicates his free time to his relationships, personal growth, participation in civil society, and physical health through nutrition and exercise. Two important activities for him are reading and traveling.
